  • Maintain satisfactory academic performance (upper 1/3 of his/her class).

  • Carry out a public service project; the funds will be available May 1st. It should be completed by the following April. The Scholarship funds may be requested on a different timetable.

  • Email a bimonthly report on the status of their project to the Foundation Office. Updates will be due September 15, November 1, January 15, and March 1.

  • Make at least one presentation on the Strauss Scholarship experience and application process to an appropriate group at their school. Ideally, it would be in the fall, so that potential applicants for next year have time to create a good project.

  • In November, attend either the Foundation’s Northern or Southern California Regional Meeting.

  • In April, attend a mandatory meeting for all Strauss Scholarship recipients at the University of California, Irvine, to make a presentation about their project: how it went, what was learned, etc. (Expenses for travel will be paid by the Foundation and will include airfare, where appropriate, and/or mileage reimbursement.) This mandatory all-day meeting is a crucial component of the scholarship process.

  • Email a written assessment of the completed project to the Foundation office two days prior to the mandatory spring meeting in April. This summary should be limited to 2 pages, typed and double-spaced.

  • Disbursement of the final $2,000 of the $15,000 award will be made upon completion of all seven of the above listed responsibilities.

The Foundation may withhold or terminate a scholarship due to unsatisfactory academic performance. Scholars may request postponement of their awards because of ill health or other mitigating circumstances.
