Eligibility Guidelines
- The Foundation will award scholarships to full-time students at our pre-selected four-year California colleges or universities who have
- demonstrated an interest in public service.
- outstanding leadership potential.
- developed and can demonstrate effective communication skills.
- the desire to "make a difference” in local, regional, national or international communities.
- one year remaining until graduation.
- a GPA in the upper 1/3 of his or her class.
- submitted an innovative, original, public service proposal.
- The Strauss Foundation will award no fewer than fourteen $10,000 scholarships each year; these will be used to pay expenses of the public service project and for some tuition, fees, books, room and board. This support is to be used in the last year of Undergraduate study.
- The Foundation invites the President, Chancellor, or their designee, of each eligible four-year California institution, to nominate three (3) finalists. Preference will be given to schools that submit three strong, well-designed project proposals. No fewer than fourteen scholarship recipients will be chosen each year from among the following institutions:
- California Institute of Technology
- Loyola Marymount University
- Occidental College
- Pomona College
- Scripps College
- Stanford University
- U C Berkeley
- U C Davis
- U C Irvine
- U C Los Angeles
- U C Merced
- U C Riverside
- U C San Diego
- U C Santa Barbara
- U C Santa Cruz
- U of San Diego
